Open House is a special day for readers to meet bestselling authors, explore one of the world's largest publishing houses, and get to know the people behind their favorite books. 

Open House brings together the biggest names in literature and publishing for a day-long event at Random House’s New York headquarters. Previous Open House speakers have included: Lauren Graham; Anna Quindlen; Marcus Samuelsson; Dave Zinczenko; Gretchen Rubin; Kelly Corrigan; Alex Guarnaschelli; Colum McCann; Emily Bazelon; and R.J. Palacio. 

Open House programming includes:  

  • Conversations between authors and experts

  • Book signings, including yet-to-be-released titles

  • Panel discussions with Random House staff

  • Cocktail Mixer with authors and publishers

10:00 A.M. – 11:00 A.M. | Stirring up Laughs with Jenny McCarthy

Jenny McCarthy is known for speaking her mind and boldly saying what the rest of us are thinking. The lovably goofy and outspoken author of multiple New York Times bestsellers and co-host of ABC's The View will be joined by her editor Marnie Cochran to discuss McCarthy’s knack for blending advice with humor, which is showcased in her new no-holds-barred book of hilarious musings, STIRRING THE POT: MY RECIPE FOR GETTING WHAT YOU WANT OUT OF LIFE.

Since its inception in 2006, authors have been using Twitter as means to connect and directly communicate with readers. In his 2013 TED talk, Twitter’s Andrew Fitzgerald discussed the ways in which the platform has evolved beyond general discourse and now enters the realm of creative experimentation. He joins authors and social media superstars Gary Shteyngart (LITTE FAILURE) and Emma Straub (THE VACATIONERS) to discuss the ways in which authors are embracing this medium for new forms of storytelling and communication.

Ruth Reichl has long illuminated the theme of how food defines us. For over 13 years, Mira Jacob has brought readers and the literary world to the next big thing with her much loved Pete’s Reading Series. Enjoy appetizers from one of our favorite Little Italy spots, Di Palo’s. Guests will savor authentic Italian antipasto and get a sneak peak of DI PALO’S GUIDE TO THE ESSENTIAL FOODS OF ITALY. Cocktails will be served by local restaurant Betony, which received three stars from the New York Times and was named Esquire's "Restaurant of the Year."
